How to Use Beard Oil

Beard Oil, to the uninitiated, is an odd concept. You take a small bottle of the stuff you’d usually cook with and dump it in your beard. It seems completely counterintuitive. You spend money on shampoo to stop your hair from being greasy, yet we’re telling you to lube up your beard with a bottle of grease… After a brief explanation of how your hair actually needs those oils that you strip away with soaps, they are often left asking how to use beard oil and what to look for when buying it.

What to Look for in a Beard Oil:

We could write an entire article on this subject, but essentially what you want is a bottle of oil with ingredients you recognize that was made in small batches. You want to see high quality carrier oils, such as avocado, jojoba and argan as well as a good essential oil blend for scent. Small batches ensure that the oils haven’t sat unused for lengthy periods and become rancid. Check out our beard oil selection to guarantee you are using the right stuff for your man mane.

How to use Beard Oil:

Using beard oil is a pretty simple procedure, yet I know that when I got my first bottle of the stuff, I did a search to make sure I was doing it right and I know I’m not alone:

Step 1 – Put a few drops of oil in your palm or on your fingertips and rub your hands together.

Step 2 – Rub it into your beard, making sure to run your fingers throughout your beard and mustache and down to your skin.

Step 3 – Use a beard comb (not a regular comb), preferably made of wood, to comb your beard and evenly distribute the oil to your beard and skin. Hold the comb at 90 degrees to your face as you do this. Comb your beard with the grain and then against the grain.

Step 4 – Apply a few more drops of beard oil to your beard using your hands if you want to get a bit more shine.

That’s really all there is to it! Try to use beard oil at least once a day to keep your beard looking and feeling great. I’d recommend using it once you get out of the shower as your pores will be open and your skin can absorb more of it at this time. I, personally, apply it about twice a day.
